The Clean Tahoe Program’s mission is to improve the visual environment in South Lake Tahoe through proper litter and trash management and public education. The Program has two full-time field crew members who serve as Clean Tahoe’s front-line troops who remove litter and illegally dumped items from the public easements along our heavily traveled roads. We also respond to community complaints regarding animal access to trash and bulk items (appliances, mattresses, furniture, etc.) in public view and we provide much needed education to properties in violation of litter and trash ordinances.
In our 2018-2019 fiscal year, Clean Tahoe picked up 504 CUBIC yards of trash

Community Cleanup Day Aka $5.00 Dump Day Saturday June 11th 2022
In 2021 we held two Community Clean Up events (June 12th, and September 18th) to make up for the missed dump day in Spring of 2020 (due to COVID 19 restrictions) . As usual the low dumping rates drew quite a crowd, with 995 vehicles coming through the gates of South Tahoe Refuse to take advantage of the great deals.
In total, 704,000 pounds of debris were disposed of, including: furniture, appliances, electronics, green waste and 8,500 pounds of sensitive documents that were shredded. We recycled as much material as possible, including 12,840 pounds of electronics, 37,020 pounds of metal, and 8,500 pounds of paper. In addition, 38 refrigerators were decommissioned, and 165 mattresses were recycled.
We cant wait to hold this event again this year.
Community Cleanup Day is made possible in part by a generous grant from Vail Resorts’ EpicPromise program. Thank you Vail! Additional sponsors include: South Tahoe Refuse & Recycling, Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe, Mattress Recycling Council, the California Conservation Corps, Eagle Protect PBC, South Tahoe Association of Realtors, Iron Mountain
